What is meant by media discontinuity?

During daily business communication an exchange of data, i.e. of information, takes place. This exchange is bound to a certain media and normally takes place in the traditional way through the post, per fax or via e-mail.

Each transition from one media to the other is a media discontinuity. Media discontinuities cause processing excesses, delays and in case of transcription errors often result in higher costs.
